How Paint Your Power Began: A Journey of Healing, Creativity, and Finding My Power
Paint Your Power didn't begin as a business.
It began as a journey.
Long before there was a studio in downtown Rogers, Arkansas. Before the blacklights, immersive projections, glow paint, themed events, and live DJ music, there was simply a woman trying to find herself again.
That woman was me.
Paint Your Power was born from my own journey of healing and rediscovering who I was after surviving an abusive relationship.
Finding My Way Back to Myself
Abuse can take many things from a person.
It can slowly affect your confidence, your sense of identity, your ability to trust yourself, and sometimes even your belief that your voice matters.
Healing isn't always a straight line. There isn't a magical moment when everything suddenly feels better.
For me, part of healing involved creativity.
Art gave me a place where I could simply exist and express myself.
There were no rules.
No one telling me I was doing something wrong.
No one deciding what I should think, feel, wear, create, or become.
I could make something entirely my own.
And somewhere along the way, I began to rediscover something important.
I still had a voice.
I still had ideas.
I still had dreams.
And I still had power.
That realization eventually inspired the idea behind Paint Your Power.
What Does “Paint Your Power” Mean?
The name isn't accidental.
Paint Your Power represents something much bigger than putting paint on a canvas.
It's about expression.
It's about confidence.
It's about discovering—or rediscovering—parts of yourself.
Sometimes creativity allows us to say things that are difficult to put into words. Sometimes it gives us permission to experiment, make mistakes, and realize that the world doesn't end when something doesn't turn out exactly as planned.
Sometimes you simply need to make a mess.
And sometimes, you need to create something beautiful just because you can.
That was the heart of Paint Your Power from the beginning.
You Don't Have to Be an Artist
One of my favorite things about Paint Your Power is hearing someone walk through the door and immediately say:
“I can't paint.”
Or:
“I don't have an artistic bone in my body.”
And then watching what happens next.
With a little encouragement, some guidance, and the freedom to simply try, people begin creating.
Two hours later, they're often staring at their finished canvas and saying:
“I can't believe I made that!”
That moment never gets old.
Because it isn't really about whether the painting is perfect.
It's about what happens when someone who believed they couldn't do something realizes that maybe they can.
That feeling of confidence can follow you far beyond the canvas.
From a Personal Journey to a Community
What began as my own personal relationship with creativity eventually grew into something I wanted to share with other people.
I wanted to create spaces where people could:
Express themselves without judgment
Try something new
Step outside their comfort zones
Laugh with friends
Connect with strangers
Make a glorious mess
Discover their creativity
Celebrate what makes them unique
Paint Your Power began growing from that simple idea.
Over time, it became more than I originally imagined.
What started with painting has continued to evolve into a growing collection of creative experiences.
We've explored:

Glow-in-the-dark painting
UV and blacklight events
Immersive projections
Fluid art
Blindfold sculpting
Paint Your Partner experiences
Famous artist-inspired events
Community art projects
Fundraisers and creative collaborations
Private parties and celebrations
And honestly?
We're still experimenting.
Because creativity isn't supposed to stand still.
Then Paint Your Power Started Getting
Weird
At some point, traditional painting classes weren't enough anymore.
I started asking bigger questions.
What if the walls became part of the art?
What if we could transform an entire room with projections?
What if the music wasn't simply playing in the background?
What if guests could step into an entirely different world?
What if an art class could become an experience?
That's when Paint Your Power began evolving into something much more immersive.
Blacklights entered the picture.
Then neon paint.
Then projections.
Then increasingly unusual art experiences.
And we discovered that people didn't just want to attend an art class.
They wanted to experience something.
They wanted a great night out.
They wanted to laugh.
They wanted to take pictures.
They wanted to try something they had never done before.
They wanted to walk away saying:
“That was completely different.”
And that's become one of the things we love most about creating Paint Your Power experiences.
Shon Became Part of the Story
Paint Your Power began years before I met my husband, Shon.
The heart of the business—its name and the personal meaning behind it—was already there.
But when Shon entered my life, he brought his own creativity, music, and artistic energy into the story.
As DJ810, he helped expand what Paint Your Power could become.
Music became an important part of our experiences.
A Basquiat-inspired event shouldn't feel like a quiet afternoon art class.
A glow paint night needs a completely different energy than a Van Gogh experience.
A creepy Halloween experience should feel completely different from a colorful spring event.
The music helps build the world.
Today, many of our Paint Your Power experiences feature live DJ810, with music curated to match the mood, theme, and energy of the event.

Our Studio Found a Home in Rogers, Arkansas
Eventually, Paint Your Power found a physical home in downtown Rogers, Arkansas.
Our studio has become a place where people can come together to celebrate, create, experiment, and occasionally get a little weird.
We've hosted:
Date nights
Birthdays
Private parties
Community events
Fundraisers
Team-building experiences
Themed art nights
Immersive creative experiences
People walk through our doors with different reasons for coming.
Some are celebrating something.
Some are looking for a unique date night.
Some were invited by friends.
And some simply want to do something different.
But by the end of the night, everyone has shared an experience.
They've created something.
They've laughed.
They've stepped outside their everyday routines.
And hopefully, they've discovered a little more of their own creative power.
But Paint Your Power Was Never Meant to Stay Inside Four Walls
Our Rogers studio may be our home base, but Paint Your Power is bigger than one building.
We are mobile.
That means we can bring the Paint Your Power experience to other communities, venues, businesses, galleries, and events.
We bring the supplies.
We bring the creativity.
We bring the music.
And when the experience calls for it, we bring the immersive elements too.
This fall, we're taking that idea on the road with our Colorado Tour.
From Pueblo to Cañon City and Beulah, we're bringing Paint Your Power experiences to new communities and proving that creativity doesn't have to happen in one particular place.
In fact, some of the most exciting experiences can happen somewhere unexpected.
A gallery.
A community center.
A small mountain town.
An event venue.
A business.
A festival.
Almost anywhere can become a creative space.

Sometimes it means creating with projections moving around the room.

Sometimes it means closing your eyes and creating something you can't see.

The Future of Paint Your Power
The truth is, Paint Your Power is still evolving.
We have ideas that are bigger than our current studio.
We're experimenting with immersive environments, projection art, interactive experiences, unusual art processes, and creative events that don't always fit neatly into a traditional category.
Because creativity isn't predictable.
And we don't think Paint Your Power should be either.
The Colorado Tour is just one example of that evolution.
We're stepping outside our familiar space, meeting new communities, collaborating with new venues, and discovering where this creative journey might lead next.
And that's exciting.

At its heart, Paint Your Power will always be connected to the journey that started it.
My journey began with healing.
It began with creativity.
It began with finding my voice again and remembering that I still had the power to create something new.
Today, Paint Your Power has grown into a place where other people can have their own experiences with creativity.
You don't have to be an artist.
You don't have to know what you're doing.
You don't have to create something perfect.
You simply have to be willing to try.
